Men can be a little dirty and as a result spills and stains are a common occurrence.  I personally think that the dirty dripage phenomenon is directly related to testosterone but I may be going out on a limb. It’s just that usually my female friends are unmarked and unsoiled at the end of a meal while their male counterparts usually leave a trail of the menu up and down the front of their shirt laid out perfectly like a map legend. And at first the tarnished clothing may be a little funny; the event something to be laughed about. However, it won’t be so funny if left unaddressed.  You will only end up with clothes that need to be pitched.  In addition to the clothes, the stain will have permanently left its mark on you, characterizing you as a slob or someone with little care for their own appearance. So, instead of admonishing the stain maker it is much easier to conquer the stain. Now that I think about it perhaps we should have just started with how to process a load of laundry first?  I guess we will start with the small job first and then work ourselves to the laundry basket. Here is a quick removal guide for some of the most common garment markers and unsightful spots.  Keep in mind that many laundry detergent makers now have small portable stain removal systems, stain sticks and pocket wipes, which also help you to treat the stain when it happens.  By doing this, the substance has less time to penetrate the fabric making its mark. Happy scrubbing.

Rub the mineral oil into the mark and let stand for 15 minutes. Blot dry with a paper towel. Combining the water and ammonia, gently rub the stained area until the mark disappears. Rinse in cool water and then wring out. (You may want to remedy this stain prior to returning home or before the next hot date with your steady girlfriend.  And if that is the case, well shame on you!)

Grease Stain- You’ll need a ½ tablespoon of cornstarch.  Gently press the cornstarch into the stain with your fingers.  After allowing the cornstarch to sit for several hours, simply brush off the powder and the grease stain should be gone as well.

Sweat Stain- You’ll need 6 tablespoons baking soda to a ½ cup of water.  Combine the two ingredients to make a baking soda paste.  Rub the paste onto the pit stain and let sit for at least one hour prior to washing. Then launder as usual.

Wine Stain- You’ll need 1 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide. Combine ingredients in a small bowl. Soak a clean sponge in the mixture, remove excessive liquid and gently blot the stain. Rinse with cool water and wring the garment dry.
